La Semaine pour un Québec Sans Tabac : lancement imminent

The 43rd edition of the Week for a Tobacco-Free Quebec will take place from January 19 to 25, 2020.[1], intended to raise awareness among the Canadian general public about the risks that smoking poses to health, particularly cardiovascular and coronary health.

This collective awareness is all the more necessary since heart disease is the second leading cause of death in Canada, and smoking doubles the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, including heart attacks, strokes and heart failure.

This campaign serves to remind people that tobacco is always harmful, even in the short term, or when consumed occasionally or in small amounts. In fact, it is estimated that the cardiovascular risk of a person who smokes only one cigarette per day is half that of a person who smokes a pack per day. As a result, there is no such thing as a "happy little consumption".

Very close to what can be done in France with the No Tobacco Month, this awareness week was coordinated by the Quebec Council on Tobacco and Health, which has been working for over forty years to reduce tobacco consumption, the leading cause of premature death in Quebec. Like Génération Sans Tabac, the CQTS is committed to the goal of a tobacco-free world, starting with the younger generations.
