La pollution tabagique, de moins en moins acceptée
The DNF website offers Internet users faced with a problem of passive smoking to submit their concerns, which are answered individually. This tool makes it possible to map trends in smoking issues. Tobacco smoke between neighbors now concerns a large majority of the questions asked. In an OpinionWay survey for DNF, 73% of the population said they were in favor of extending the smoking ban to certain outdoor locations. One in two French people are calling for a smoking ban around schools, beaches, restaurant terraces, queues and amusement parks. Barely 10 years ago, demand was almost non-existent. Also in an OpinionWay survey for DNF from August 2019, the French expressed their views on their exposure to smoking at home: 1/3 of homes have at least one smoker and the dangers of tobacco are recognized by 90% of the French, for 44% upon perceiving the smell and for 40% upon approaching a smoker. From now on, balconies, terraces or gardens have become smoking areas. This displacement of the nuisance thus creates a new problem: tobacco nuisance between neighbors. 43% of the French feel that they are bothered by their neighbors, more in large urban areas and in the Paris region, where the building has replaced the individual home. The French have been demanding more protection since they have benefited from it in enclosed and covered public places. The OpnionWay survey of May 2019 even revealed a very surprising figure: 20% of respondents would like to see smoking banned in the street! The world has been shaking since the Coronavirus hit. The latest figures show 1,300 deaths in China for 1.39 billion inhabitants since the start of the epidemic. In France, 20 times less populated than China, the tobacco epidemic kills 1,500 smokers and 21 non-smokers in one week, victims of passive smoking, but no one cares. The draconian measures taken and accepted by the world's population could allow the epidemic to disappear. So, what are we waiting for to tackle the scourge of smoking with the same vigor and determination as for the Coronavirus. Ref: la DNF bi-monthly letter ©Generation Without Tobacco
