The NTCA and public health groups are urging the ministry to reject the proposal and the tobacco industry&#039;s false narratives used to justify it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The NTCA, in a letter to Minister Niyi Adebayo, dated July 28, said the draft tobacco industry policy contravenes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tobaccocontrollaws.org\/files\/live\/Nigeria\/Nigeria%20-%20TCA%20-%20national.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the National Tobacco Control Act, 2015<\/a> , <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tobaccocontrollaws.org\/files\/live\/Nigeria\/Nigeria%20-%202019%20Regulations%20-%20national.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to the National Tobacco Control Regulations 2019<\/a>, but also to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/fctc\/text_download\/fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Framework Convention<\/a> of the World Health Organization for Tobacco Control (FCTC) which Nigeria ratified in 2005.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the letter titled &quot;Tobacco Industry Attempts to Create a Constitutional Crisis in Nigeria and the Resulting Public Health Problems,&quot; signed by NTCA Board Chairman Akinbode Oluwafemi, the organization referred to Section 1(m) of the National Tobacco Control Act.
