On Tuesday, July 28, 2020, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Paris time), a webinar on roles and responsibilities in the response to Covid-19, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and tobacco in Africa will be held. This webinar is jointly organized by the Union, the Framework Convention Alliance, and the African Consumer Union.<\/p>\n
NCDs in sub-Saharan Africa pose a growing challenge to health systems currently strained by the COVID19 pandemic. The COVID19 pandemic has benefited the tobacco industry which has increased its activity across the world. An opportunity for it to whitewash its image using corporate social responsibility. Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of non-communicable diseases and African countries are experiencing increasing rates of tobacco use.<\/p>\n
The role of international and regional organizations, policy makers and civil society in managing COVID-19, strengthening prevention and delivery of health services to combat NCDs as well as effective implementation of tobacco control policies is very important in Africa.<\/p>\n
An opportunity for national and international policymakers to share lessons learned from best practices and future actions to prevent epidemics and ensure uninterrupted health services for the fight against communicable and non-communicable diseases.<\/p>\n
