The DNF website<\/a> offers Internet users facing a problem of passive smoking the opportunity to submit their concerns, which are answered individually. This tool allows for mapping of trends in smoking issues. Tobacco smoke between neighbors now concerns a large majority of the questions asked.<\/p>\n

In an OpinionWay poll for DNF, 73% of the population said they were in favor of extending the smoking ban to certain outdoor places.<\/p>\n

One in two French people are calling for a smoking ban around schools, beaches, restaurant terraces, queues, and amusement parks. Just 10 years ago, the demand was almost nonexistent.<\/p>\n

Also in an OpinionWay survey for DNF from August 2019, the French expressed their views on their exposure to smoking at home: 1\/3 of households have at least one smoker and the dangers of tobacco are recognized by 90% of French people, for 44% upon perceiving the smell and for 40% upon approaching a smoker.<\/p>\n

Balconies, terraces, and gardens have now become smoking areas. This shift in nuisance creates a new problem: smoking among neighbors. 431,300 French people feel bothered by their neighbors, more so in large urban areas and the Paris region, where apartment buildings have replaced individual homes.<\/p>\n

The French have been demanding more protection since they began benefiting from it in enclosed and covered public spaces. The OpnionWay poll of May 2019 even revealed a very surprising figure: 20% of those surveyed would like to see smoking banned in the street!<\/p>\n

The world has been reeling since the coronavirus began. The latest figures show 1,300 deaths in China, out of a population of 1.39 billion, since the start of the epidemic. In France, a population 20 times smaller than China's, the tobacco epidemic has killed 1,500 smokers and 21 non-smokers in one week, victims of secondhand smoke, but no one cares.<\/p>\n

The draconian measures taken and accepted by the world population could allow the epidemic to disappear.<\/p>\n

So, what are we waiting for to tackle the scourge of smoking with the same vigor and determination as we did with the Coronavirus?<\/p>\n
